Allen Elementary

  • Client: Burlington-Edison School District
  • Location: Burlington, Washington

About the project:

Allen Elementary School, a K-8 facility built in 1967, became obsolete due to changes in technology, curriculum, teaching philosophies, and demo-graphic shifts. This project required maximum creativity to accomplish the ambitious goals of modernizing the existing campus, increasing capacity by adding facilities, improving safety systems, and maintaining project costs within strict budget parameters.

To keep costs down, materials, furnishings, and even the buildings themselves were refurbished, recycled, and reused. Many of the functions shifted around campus and new, modern facilities were integrated with the existing campus to create a state of the art learning facility. Some of the highlights include new science classrooms, a new gymnasium and multi-purpose rooms, and data and communication upgrades.
