Bothell HS Three Phased Implementation

About the project:

Sprawling and incrementally developed over 50 years, by the late 90’s Bothell High School was in desperate need of a redevelopment. Armed with a general idea that the PE Facility should be adjacent to the existing building and aware that the school needed to stay operational throughout the construction process, Dykeman began Phase I.

Beginning Phase II at the completion of Phase I (2002), the siting of the remaining program elements became much more complex. Dykeman began a detailed look at the program requirements and the phased implementation of those elements. Phase II was funded to create a Performing Arts program that would be a district wide draw. The Northshore Performing Arts Center (NPAC) got wind of the project and expressed an interest in contributing to facility funds to make the program a regional and community draw. This project achieved that goal with a 600 seat theater, full fly loft and a complete accompaniment of support spaces. The music program and science wings were also a part of Phase II.

Master planned as a part of Phase II, Phase III included the remaining elements of the school – Commons, Culinary Arts, Business, Art, Administration, Family and Consumer Science, Special Needs, Library and Classrooms for English and Social Studies. Phase 3 was completed in 2008.

Notable Features Include:

  • Phase III (2005-2008)was designed to a high level of the WSSP standard.
  • Sustainability elements include:
    Onsite infiltration
    Centrally Organizing Raingardens
    Daylighting
    Highly Efficient Energy Efficient Lighting
Low Velocity Air Displacement Systems in the Performing Arts Center and classrooms
