IGA - Granite Falls
About the project:
This expansion and upgrade of the existing neighborhood shopping center, located in the heart of the business district of Granite Falls, was completed in the spring of 2009. The existing 16,800 square foot Red Apple Market expanded into the adjacent abandoned drug store space of 8,000 square feet for a total of 24,800 square feet, and then changed its name and program to IGA stores. There is an existing 3,100 square foot Movie Gallery store along the south side of the newly remodeled market.
DYKEMAN collaborated with the retailer in developing a new merchandising layout and design to create the right mix and flow for his customers. Working with an aggressive budget, we replaced the 17-year old refrigeration cases with new/used equipment. The main system was updated receiving energy rebates along with the use of LED lights in the frozen door cases. We used skylights and daylighting to enhance the merchandising and added ceramic halide specialty lighting in key areas. This was used along with fluorescent general area lighting to create the right light level and energy savings.
DYKEMAN worked closely with the Landlord and Tenants to upgrade this existing center both inside and out using local materials and creating a Northwest vernacular design, consisting of wood, stone and metal. This fresh new look was carried inside the market to create a warm and inviting experience. They also expanded their beer and wine department along with a larger deli including the new Chinatown Café. The food service departments include a seating area that opens to the outside covered area. Both the Landlord and Tenant were pleased with the impact made on a very modest remodeling budget and their customers are excited to see the new changes and product offerings.
