Knowledge and light may be forever entwined in metaphorical terms—illuminated manuscripts, the Enlightenment, lightbulb-studded epiphanies—but the average contemporary school is not generally known for its light quality. If your education was anything like ours, much of it took place under the cold buzz of fluorescent strip lighting bearing down from a dropped ceiling or the shallow pitch of a trailer.
