“First life, then spaces, then buildings—the other way around never works.”
– Jan Gehl
Originally from India, Fenil discovered her passion for architecture through a lifelong curiosity about how climate, culture, and materiality shape the way people build and live. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Gujarat University, India—where she also obtained her architectural license—and later completed her Master of Architecture at the University of Washington with a focus on Sustainable Systems & Design.
Before joining Dykeman, she contributed to multifamily housing, tribal community townhomes, and senior living facility projects across Washington. Earlier in her career, she practiced in India on institutional and residential projects, gaining experience across all phases of design, from concept through construction.
Fenil’s design approach is rooted in empathy, sustainability, and community connection. Inspired by the work of Balkrishna Doshi, she believes thoughtful design can empower people and help shape resilient, inclusive communities. Her work at Dykeman provides the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines to create spaces that bring dignity, purpose, and beauty to everyday environments.
Outside of work, Fenil enjoys traveling, skating, cooking, and exploring the Pacific Northwest’s trails and architectural landmarks. She also loves photography, capturing moments where architecture and nature intersect.
