The existing Ferndale High School was originally constructed in 1936 with multiple expansions and modernizations over the years, but in 2019 the voters decided that it was time to start over and so began the design of the new Ferndale High School campus.  The current student population is approximately 1,192 students.  The new Ferndale High School has been designed with core facilities (cafeteria, gym, library) to support 1,600 students and classroom space for 1,375 students with a masterplan classroom expansion to house an additional 225 students in the future.

Throughout the design process there was a huge emphasis on community engagement which was a vital component to the success and support of the visioning and design process. The team developed goals in order to encourage a connection to the natural environment and environmental stewardship, and create compelling learning environments with many opportunities for learning from the project itself.

As the existing campus is to remain occupied throughout construction, intense strategic planning and phasing of the overall site was critical from the very beginning which led to the decision to utilize the GCCM construction process.  The project is scheduled for completion Fall of 2023 and will include an all new 3 story classroom building, commons, athletic and CTE wing as well as a new track/field and stadium.  The campus will also see the replacement of its greenhouse, aquaculture and agricultural science buildings.
